Die AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 ist eine integrierte Grafikkarte für Notebooks. Sie befindet sich in den Ryzen 7 APUs, welche gegen Ende 2017 vorgestellt wurden. Die GPU basiert auf die Vega Architektur (5. Generation GCN) und bietet 10 CUs (= 640 Shader der 704 im Chip verbauten) mit bis zu 1300 MHz (im Ryzen 7 2700U). Die Leistung ist abhängig vom konfigurierten TDP (12-25 Watt zum Launch), der Taktung im Modell, der Kühlung und vom verbauten Hauptspeicher. Von schnellem Dual-Channel DDR4-2400 Speicher dürfte die Grafikkarte deutlich profitieren (im Gegensatz zu auch möglichen DDR4-2133 Single-Channel).

Die Vega Architektur bietet einige Verbesserungen zur Polaris Generation und unterstützt nun z.B. DirectX 12 Feature Level 12_1. Mehr Informationen dazu finden Sie in unserem Raven Ridge Architekturartikel.

Im Referenzdesign bei AMD ordnet sich die GPU zwischen GeForce 940MX / Radeon Pro 450 und GeForce MX150 / Radeon Pro 555 ein. Dadurch ermöglicht sie ein flüssiges Spielen von anspruchslosen Spielen wie League of Legends (med), Dota 2 (low), Overwatch (low), CS:GO (med) und Quake Champions (high) in 720p bis 1080p laut AMD.

Der Stromverbrauch ist dank 14nm Prozess und ausgeklügelten Stromsparmechanismen relativ gering (laut AMD) und daher eignet sich die Grafikkarte auch für dünne und leichte Notebooks.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (Desktop)

Die Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 ist Einstiegs-Desktop-Grafikkarte basierend auf den GP107 Chip der Pascal Architektur. Sie wird in 14nm FinFET bei Samsung gefertigt (im Unterschied zu den schnelleren Pascal Chips wie 1060). Die GTX 1050 ist mit dem selben TDP von 75 Watt wie die 1050 Ti spezifiziert, hat jedoch nur 640 statt 768 Shader und 2 statt 4 GB GDDR5. Die Desktop Variante wurde am 25. Okt. 2016 vorgestellt, die mobile Version (GTX 1050 für Laptops) soll jedoch erst später erscheinen (Anfang 2017).

Die Leistung soll in Spielen laut Nvidia rund 30% vor der Radeon RX 460 mit 2GB VRAM liegen. Die 4 GB RX 460 sollte daher nur etwa 10 % langsamer sein und die alte GTX 950 etwa gleich schnell wie die GTX 1050. Dadurch eignet sich die Grafikkarte am besten für 1920x1080 bei hohen (aber nicht maximalen) Details in aktuellen Spielen.

AMD Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL

Die AMD Radeon WX Vega M GL  ist die integrierte Grafikkarte in den schwächeren Intel Kaby-Lake-G SoCs, wie dem Core i7-8706G. Sie entspricht der Consumer Variante Radeon RX Vega M GL in den gleich genannten CPUs jedoch mit professionellen Treibern. Die AMD Radeon Pro (ehemals FirePro) Serie ist das Gegenstück zur Quadro Serie von Nvidia und bietet zertifizierte Treiber für professionelle 3D Anwendungen (CAD und DCC). Durch einige freigeschaltene Features und Optimierungen ist die Performance in derartigen Programmen dadurch deutlich besser als bei Consumer Radeon Grafikchips.

Die Gragfikkarte befindet sich direkt auf dem selben Package wie der Kaby-Lake Prozessor und 4 GB HBM2 Grafikspeicher. Die Treiber werden von Intel veröffentlicht, sind jedoch anscheinend nur leicht modifizierte AMD Treiber. Daher ist die langfristige Treiberversorgung etwas fraglich.

Die Vega M GL nutzt 20 CUs (1280 Shader) bei einer Taktrate von 931 bis 1011 MHz (Boost). Anscheinend ist die Grafikkarte eine Mischung aus Polaris (Shader?) und Vega (zumindest dem Speicherkontroller). Nähere Informationen gibt es nicht, jedoch gibt sich die GPU als Polaris 22 aus und unterstützt auch nicht die selben DirectX 12 Features wie die Vega Desktop Grafikkarten. Der Stromverbrauch sollte ähnlich einer dedizierten Vega Mobile GPU sein, wobei die Kaby-Lake-G Kombination eventuell durch eine gemeinsame Stromversorgung effizienter arbeiten kann.

Radeon RX Vega series

This article is about the GPU architecture by AMD. For the GPU architecture by Vivante, see Vivante Corporation.

The Radeon RX Vega series is a series of graphics processors developed by AMD. These GPUs use the Graphics Core Next (GCN) 5th generation architecture, codenamed Vega, and are manufactured on 14 nmFinFET technology, developed by Samsung Electronics and licensed to GlobalFoundries.[5] The series consists of desktop graphics cards and APUs aimed at desktops, mobile devices, and embedded applications.

The lineup was released on 14 August 2017. It included the RX Vega 56 and the RX Vega 64, priced at $399 and $499 respectively.[6] These were followed by two mobile APUs, the Ryzen 2500U and Ryzen 2700U, in October 2017.[7] February 2018 saw the release of two desktop APUs, the Ryzen 3 2200G and the Ryzen 5 2400G, and the Ryzen Embedded V1000 line of APUs.[8][9] In September 2018 AMD announced several Vega APUs in their Athlon line of products.[10] Later in January 2019, the Radeon VII was announced based on the 7nm FinFET node manufactured by TSMC.[11][12]

History[edit]

The Vega microarchitecture was AMD's high-end graphics cards line,[13] and is the successor to the R9 300 series enthusiast Fury products. Partial specifications of the architecture and Vega 10 GPU were announced with the Radeon Instinct MI25 in December 2016.[14] AMD later released the details of the Vega architecture.

Announcement[edit]

Vega was originally announced at AMD's CES 2017 presentation on 5 January 2017,[15] alongside the Zen line of CPUs.[16]

New features[edit]

Vega targets increased instructions per clock, higher clock speeds, and support for HBM2.[17][18][19]

AMD's Vega features new memory hierarchy with high-bandwidth cache and its controller.[citation needed]

Support for HBM2 featuring double the bandwidth-per-pin over previous generation HBM. HBM2 allows for higher capacities with less than half the footprint of GDDR5 memory. Vega architecture is optimized for streaming very large datasets and can work with a variety of memory types with up to 512TB of virtual address space.[citation needed]

Primitive shader for improved geometry processing. Replaces vertex and geometry shaders in geometry processing pipelines with a more programmable single stage. The primitive shader stage is more efficient, introduces intelligent load balancing technologies and higher throughput.[20]

NCU: Next Compute Unit a Next-generation compute engine. The Vega GPU introduces the Next-Gen Compute Unit. Versatile architecture featuring flexible compute units that can natively process 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit or 64-bit operations in each clock cycle. And run at higher frequencies. Vega brings support for Rapid Packed Math, processing two half-precision (16-bit) in the same time as a single 32-bit floating-point operation. Up to 128 32-bit, 256 16-bit or 512 8-bit ops per clock are possible with the Vega architecture.[20]

Draw Stream Binning Rasterizer designed for higher performance and power efficiency. It allows for "fetch once, shade once" of pixels through the use of a smart on-chip bin cache and early culling of pixels invisible in a final scene.[citation needed]

Vega cards can consume comparatively less power along with same or even better performance when the card is undervolted. An offset off 0.25V is proving really cool and efficient.[citation needed]

Vega bumps Direct3D feature level support from 12_0 to 12_1.[citation needed]

Vega's rasteriser brings hardware-acceleration support for Rasterizer Ordered Views and Conservative Rasterisation Tier 3.[21]

Radeon features[edit]

The following table shows features of AMD's GPUs (see also: List of AMD graphics processing units).

  1. ^The Radeon 100 Series has programmable pixel shaders, but do not fully comply with DirectX 8 or Pixel Shader 1.0. See article on R100's pixel shaders.
  2. ^R300, R400 and R500 based cards do not fully comply with OpenGL 2+ as the hardware does not support all types of non-power of two (NPOT) textures.
  3. ^OpenGL 4+ compliance requires supporting FP64 shaders and these are emulated on some TeraScale chips using 32-bit hardware.
  4. ^ abcThe UVD and VCE were replaced by the Video Core Next (VCN) ASIC in the Raven Ridge APU implementation of Vega.
  5. ^Video processing ASIC for video frame rate interpolation technique. In Windows it works as a DirectShow filter in your player. In Linux, there is no support on the part of drivers and / or community.

Notebookcheck

The AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 is an integrated GPU for notebooks. It is used for the Ryzen 7 APUs, which were launched in the end of 2017. The GPU is based on the Vega architecture (5th generation GCN) and has 10 CUs (=640 shaders) clocked at up to 1300 MHz (Ryzen 7 2700U). The performance depends on the configured TDP (9-25 W at launch), the clocks, the cooling, and the memory configuration). The GPU should benefit from fast dual-channel DDR4-2400 RAM (contrary to DDR4-2133 single-channel, which is also possible).

The Vega architecture offers some improvements over the Polaris generation and now supports DirectX 12 Feature Level 12_1. More information is available in our dedicated article about the Raven Ridge architecture.

AMD's reference design GPU is sitting between the GeForce 940MX / Radeon Pro 450 and GeForce MX150 / Radeon Pro 555. It can handle smooth gameplay in simple titles like League of Legends (med), Dota 2 (low), Overwatch (low), CS:GO (med), and Quake Champions (high) in 720p up to 1080p according to AMD.

Thanks to the 14nm process and clever power-saving features, the power consumption is comparatively low (according to AMD), so the graphics card can also be used for slim and light notebooks.
