G'day,

I sent the following query to Holley's Reman Division Tech Support email:

I would like to know the Rochester OEM part numbers for the carbs Sales
Number: 64-7256 & 64-7259 to verify that they are the correct carbs for a
GMC Motorhome. Thank you, Rob

I got the following response:

7045254 = GMC
7045554 = GMC
7043254 = GMC
17056258
17058250
17058253
17058553
17059258
17059259
17055645
17055635
17058254 = GMC
17065609
17057258

From the info that has been provided in previous GMCnet messages I added =
GMC.

Someone that needs a rebuilt carb will have to order one and see what they
get and how it works. Considering the fact that Pace Performance will sell
it for $208.69 (including core charge) it would be worth a shot. If it
doesn't work properly I'd think it would be covered by warranty.

Assuming that Pace is not "The Pirates" Larry was referring to! ;-)

Subject: RE: [GMCnet] What's special about the GMC carb?

STOP THE PRESSES!

Look what I just stumbled on to on the Holley Reman website:

http://www.holley.com/BrowseCatalogs.asp?Catalog=Reman&Page=261

The first numbers are listed here and continue to page 264.

Rochester
O.E. Number Sales No.
7043254 64-7256
7045254 64-7256
7045554 64-7256
17057254 Not listed (CA Carb)
17057559 Not listed
17058254 64-7259
17058559 Not listed (CA Carb)

Now whether they have these carbs in stock is another question!

Here's the contact info I would suggest that someone in the USA give them a
call and see what they can find out:

This makes Paterson's price appear reasonable considering it then will be, for sure, the correct Qjet for the GMCMH.

You're not wrong!

I did notice something interesting:

We can Restore your carburetor
Or call with a carb number we have lots cores

Chris, it might be worth your time to give them a call to see if they have
any cores for a GMC!

Any of you fuel injection guys out there want to part with their old correct carb?

I'm looking at over $600 all said and done. Fuel Injection kit is looking good to me right now...

What's funny, is this carb actually works pretty good considering the accel pumps are crap.

So just get a parts kit and replace/repair the accel pumps. Those parts are part of the Qjet overhaul kits. It's not that hard to rework a Qjet.

Do to a bad rebuild my motorhome carb was shot and useless as a core. I'm using part of my old carb, part of a 454 carb, and the coach runs much better than it ever has. While I would love a motorhome carb and have posted for one on the flea market area, I don't think not having one is all that big a deal. You can also contact Joe Mondello. At Eastern States he said he had carbs that would work just fine for a motorhome 455. I think he wanted $250-$300 with no exchange needed. It's nice to squeeze as much performance as you can from these old babies, but it's probably not that necessary for most people...

Yeah, I may do just that for now. The other half wants to get me fuel injection for Fathers day.

Pete,

When I bought Double Trouble it had a Holley on it. Ken Frey tuned it and it ran OK. However, I found performance at highway speeds
didn't meet my expectations so I got a rebuilt QJ from Dick Patterson. When I removed the Holley I discovered the reason the Holley
didn't perform as well. The Holley's secondaries are MUCH smaller than the QJ.

What was most interesting to me was when I fitted one of Dick's re-curved distributers the performance got even better!

Unfortunately I can't tell you anything about the mileage as I've never checked because there's nothing more I can do to the engine
(at reasonable cost) that will make the gas mileage any better. I drive at whatever the speed limit is: 60 - 65 - 70 - 75. If you
want to get good mileage drive at 55 - 60.

Or as Gene notes: Mileage in a GMC will be 8 - 10 mpg.

Rob M.

@Robert- Was it a spread-bore 4175? (I know of a torker/standard-bore attempt that was a disaster.)

Folks, I am simply trying to open conversation to steer things the way the airbag situation went. One Source-Many source. There are 4-5 of us on this single post that don't have that magically #'rd carb to route through Dick's Carb mecca. Wish I did, but I don't so $2000 or $260? I am still counting change to save for airbags,wheels and tires

My own "progress" so far:

Tires: Discount Tire in New Braunfels, TX where I picked up my coach in May 2010.

Shocks and brakes: Local frame shop in Oklahoma City, 2011.

Airbags: Sullybilt at Shawnee convention/rally in Mar 2012.

Wheels: XD-775 Rock Stars (chrome) at Discount Tire 4 miles up the road, spread
over 3 months (2 wheels per month) in Summer 2012.

Set priorities (safety first) and spread out the spending!

Still need work on fuel hoses, but beyond my DIY capabilties. Major fuel leak
HAS been eliminated.

The difference between the butchered Q-Jet that was on my 455, butchered so bad the vacuum pot to open the secondaries was removed and a screw put in the port. to the Dick Patterson Carb was between night and day. Dick looked at the bad carb, and did not even hazard a guess where it came from, but it was not acceptable as a core.
Settle for the best, get a Patterson.
